Section 8: What Would You Do?

Scenario #3:

A stellar employee has been deployed overseas for the past year. He is expected to return to work shortly and co-workers are nervous about how he has been affected. You hear talk about PTSD, anger and depression issues. How can you ensure a welcome return to work?

A. While not discounting staff concerns, you explain that not every Veteran returns home with disabilities. Assure them that you are prepared to support him in his return to work and offer a brown-bag education session on PTSD and other invisible disabilities. B. You throw a welcome home party where coworkers can see the Veteran is normal and he can tell his stories to everyone with questions. C. Ask the Veteran how you can help smooth his transition back to work. D. You encourage staff to talk in low voices while he is in ear shot, not to approach him from behind, and not engage him in any discussion about what happened overseas. E. A and C
