Section 4: Managing for Success

Accommodating TBI

Accommodations are based on an individual's functional limitation - not the disability. As such, there are no specific accommodations associated with TBI, but for the barriers one may experience because of a TBI. While not all employees with brain injury will need accommodations, the following lists are examples that may enhance the productivity for some people living with a TBI.

For those experiencing difficulty with Concentration and Time Management, consider:

  • Schedule-reminders (telephone, pagers, alarm clocks)
  • Work task checklists and clipboards
  • Written as well as verbal instructions from supervisors
  • Tape recorders and note pads as memory aids
  • Stop watches for time management

For those experiencing Stimulus Overload and Fatigue, consider:

  • Scheduled rest breaks
  • Scheduling more difficult or challenging tasks at the beginning of the work shift
